The
2005 Racing Season
Seven months ago (May 19th) the crew and I were stepping
on the track for the start of the 2005 season with high hopes and looking forward. Racing
has become a huge part of our lives, it has added many new dimensions along with many new friends. With the passing of another great season, brings with it the chance to sit and reflect, as I strike on
this keyboard trying to bring it back to life on a computer screen. It can’t
be done, not by me, too much, to little time, to little talent, so I can only hit the high spots. However, if you made it over to our race trailer this season you could find bits and pieces of many stories
in the form of photographs. The women in my life (Lisa, Sherrell & Sierra)
took the hundreds of photos acquired from past years of racing (mostly from our shutterbug Carol) and made a monument on the
trailer wall for all to enjoy. If you’re not on the wall you need to come
around more, if not for the conversation than do it for the spectacular meals prepared by Carol and Lisa.
Most racing teams are not lucky enough to have teammates, we are, they come in the
form of Terry and Tommy Plummer. This partnership was not planned or thought
out, heck its not even official it just happened. I ran into Terry (literally)
on the track our rookie season, went over, apologized, he liked the gesture or maybe it was the food, friends for life. The crew anticipates the meetings on the interstate where we meet on our way to every
race, they know the Plummer boys are number one and they salute them week in week out.
Terry throws to us thirty-five years of racing knowledge to do with what we want and we appreciate every bit. The majority of racers are lucky if they have someone to help with the car on race
days, we have a crew of three guys. Three guys that put their heart and soul into a little yellow hot rod, so this
over grown kid can go live out his dream. Did I mention eat, we eat better than anyone at the track, pulled pork, green
chili, stew, meat balls, roast, brats the list goes on and on. They feed over fifty people on average per race, great
job.
As for
the season, the numbers on the top of this page speak loudly for the season and how great it was. Our major goal for the season was to win a track championship at Colorado National Speedway, we did everything
right and we were right there. That goal was not met this year but not for the
lack of trying, we were a blown motor away. Next year. Our season was an
overwhelming success and we will use that to roll into next year at a pace only a few might keep. The fun continues and so will we for another season, thanks to all of you that share in our racing program
by attending, calling, asking, writing checks. Thanks to my family, and to Ty
over in turn two, and to the Spoelma Family for always being there. Roger and
Rudy for keeping an eye out (no pun intended Roger), on the competition, and keeping the food safe. Bryan, Dan & Dave, by far the best crew a guy could ask for, thank you!
Listed is a group people and businesses alike that have helped in making our TEAM what
it is, thank you. Sorry if I missed anybody please email me to correct.
See you all in April!
